MEET ASHLEY

 

Ashley Hamilton (she/hers) is a citizen of the Winnebago Tribe in Nebraska and a descendant of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas. She is a University of Michigan Law School 2026 J.D. Candidate, holds an A.B. in Sociology with a secondary in Economics, honors, from Harvard University, and is a PLSI 2022 graduate and a 2023 SEO Law Fellow.

She is the President of National NALSA and the Editor-in-Chief of Michigan's Journal of Law and Society. During her 2L summer and 3L fall, Ashley clerked for the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians Court of Appeals. As a 2L, Ashley served as Co-President of Michigan Law's NALSA, Treasurer of National NALSA, an associate editor for Michigan's Journal of Law & Society, a Senior Judge for Michigan's 1L Legal Practice and Writing program, and a Tribal-State Relations Law Clerk for Michigan Governor Whitmer's Executive Office of the Governor, Office of Legal Counsel. During her 1L summer, Ashley worked as a Fellow at the UCLA Law San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Tribal Legal Development Clinic.

Prior to law school, Ashley worked at Ho-Chunk, Inc. as a Assistant Director of Projects Planning and Regulations and as a Research Associate and Wilma Mankiller Fellow in Tribal Governance and Special Projects at the National Congress of American Indians.

Ashley's goal for the year is to keep raising the bar, so all Native law students can rise. She also hopes to institutionalize every stride the previous board made, so no progress is lost.
